Odisha Govt to Install AI Cameras, Biometric Systems to Track Punctuality in Offices
Bhubaneswar: In a bid to tighten workplace discipline, the Odisha government will soon install AI-powered cameras in key state offices to monitor employee punctuality and attendance.
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja at Lok Seva Bhawan on Tuesday.
In the first phase, the AI cameras will be set up at Lok Seva Bhawan and Kharabela Bhawan, with plans to extend the system to other government offices, including district-level establishments, in subsequent phases. Officials with a history of poor performance or habitual late arrivals will be closely monitored.
The Chief Secretary said regular work reviews will be conducted, allowing underperforming officials time to improve. However, failure to meet punctuality and performance standards could impact future career prospects.
Alongside AI surveillance, the Revenue Department will roll out biometric attendance systems across all its offices. Additional Secretary Diganta Routroy has directed all district collectors to implement the measure to ensure timely attendance.
