Odisha Govt To Establish Traffic and Road Safety Wing, 20 New Cyber Police Stations

Bhubaneswar: Through a notification, the Odisha government has announced the formation of a dedicated ‘Traffic and Road Safety Wing (T&RWS)’ as well as the setting up of 20 additional cyber police stations.

The T&RWS unit will function directly under the supervision of the Director General of Police (DGP). It will have its headquarters in Bhubaneswar. This will enhance traffic management and road safety across Odisha, the notification said.

The government has also sanctioned 66 positions for the proposed T&RWS headquarters in Bhubaneswar, with an additional 1,930 posts for district-level deployment to support the on-ground implementation of road safety measures and traffic control strategies.

The notification further stated that the 20 new facilities will operate alongside the existing 14 cyber police stations, which are located in districts such as Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, and Rourkela.

A total of 987 new posts in various ranks have been sanctioned for 20 newly-created cyber crime & economic offences police stations and strengthening of the existing 14 cyber police stations in the state, to overcome the rising menace of cyber crimes and economic offences.

The existing 14 cyber stations will continue to function with six experts – two cyber forensic experts, two IT specialists and two finance analysts each. The 20 new facilities will have four specialists each: Two IT professionals, one cyber forensic expert and one finance analyst. The OCAC will assist in recruiting 170 experts through third-party outsourcing, it added.
