Odisha Govt Orders Action Against Nursing Officers in Case of Strike
Bhubaneswar: In anticipation of the Odisha Nursing Employees’ Association’s strike on Wednesday, the Director of Nursing has issued a notice to the leaders of all state-run healthcare institutions, instructing them to take disciplinary action against the nursing officers, citing the ongoing enforcement of the Odisha Emergency Services (Maintenance) Act of 1988.
The notice has been dispatched to all state government hospitals and medical colleges, stating that nursing officers, paramedics, technicians, and other class III and IV employees are prohibited from engaging in any form of protest.
In the letter, the Director informed that already the Odisha government has imposed the Essential Services (Maintenance) Act for a period of six months from the month of August.
Dr. Artabandhu Nayak, the Director of Nursing, stated, “The ESMA will be effective for six months, and during this period, none of the aforementioned employees are permitted to strike. Consequently, stringent measures will be implemented against the nursing officers who have announced their intention to cease work starting tomorrow.” The nursing officers have declared a strike and submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister, listing various demands.
