Odisha Govt Appoints New Heads for Women & Child Rights Commissions
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Tuesday appointed Shovana Mohanty as the new Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW). The post had been lying vacant since the removal of Minati Behera in November 2024.
A formal notification issued by the Department of Women and Child Development stated that Mohanty, hailing from Karanjia under Remuna Block in Balasore district, will serve a three-year term beginning August 5, 2025.
In a parallel development, Babita Patra from Mayur Vihar, Somnath Nagar in Berhampur, has been named the new Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR). Patra will hold the position for a tenure of three years from the date of assuming charge, or until she turns 65, whichever comes earlier.
The state government has also inducted six new members into the OSCPCR, including three from Bhubaneswar. The appointed members are:
- Sukeshi Oram – Kadagadia, Champua, Keonjhar
- Kalpana Lenka – Basanti Colony, Rourkela
- Chandana Das – Badagada Brit Colony, Bhubaneswar
- Kasturi Mishra – Bapuji Nagar, Bhubaneswar
- Manasmita Khuntia – Charampa, Bhadrak
- Sujata Nayak – Bomikhal, Bhubaneswar
These members will serve for a period of three years or until they reach the age of 60, whichever is earlier.
