Odisha EOW Nabs Woman for Swindling Rs 2 Crore from 53 Victims, Husband Still at Large
Bhubaneswar: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Odisha Police has apprehended a woman who had been on the run for an extended period. She was arrested from the Kalyan area of East Mumbai and subsequently brought to Odisha on transit remand. The woman, identified as Rammi Bhuyan alias Rammi Pusty (39), along with her husband Bimalananda Bhuyan, residents of Durg in Chhattisgarh, stand accused of swindling over 53 individuals of approximately Rs 2 crore.
The arrest follows a case filed by Bikash Poddar of Sambalpur against Bimalananda Bhuyan and Rammi Bhuyan, alleging fraudulent activities under the guise of their LLP Company, “Quick Click AD Media.” The couple purportedly enticed investors with promises of lucrative returns from LED monitor advertisements. During 2017-18, they attracted public deposits from various districts in Odisha and Chhattisgarh, amounting to crores, claiming to purchase LED monitors for advertisement purposes. However, they absconded without fulfilling their commitments, leaving investors in financial distress.
Rammi Bhuyan, evading authorities, had assumed a new identity and was employed at a real estate company in Kalyan, East Mumbai, having acquired new identification documents. Meanwhile, her husband, Bimalananda Bhuyan, remains at large and is believed to have fled to Dubai immediately after the scam came to light.
