Odisha Emerging as Chemicals, Petrochemicals Hub: CM Mohan Majhi
Mumbai : Odisha is rapidly emerging as a key player in the chemicals and petrochemicals sector, leveraging its rich natural resources, strategic location and leadership in mining and metals, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said at the IndiaChem event in Mumbai on Friday.
IndiaChem, a biennial flagship event organised by the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, highlights the evolving landscape of the chemicals industry. Majhi emphasised that Odisha’s chemicals and petrochemicals ecosystem is built on a strong foundation, with major players like Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Paradeep Phosphates Limited, and IFFCO playing a pivotal role.
The Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) at Paradip, strategically positioned near Paradip Port, is central to the state’s aspirations, offering robust infrastructure and global market connectivity, the Chief Minister said.
Odisha’s chemicals and petrochemicals sector is set for significant growth, driven by demand from core industries such as steel, aluminium and petrochemicals. Majhi also pointed to the state’s efforts to diversify into high-potential areas like technical textiles, recycling, speciality chemicals and pharmaceutical chemicals. The promotion of anode and cathode chemicals for electric vehicle batteries and green fuel production is another key focus.
Majhi noted that leading companies, including Grasim, Berger Paints, Supreme and Astral have already expanded their operations in Odisha, boosting downstream industries. The state is also attracting investment in speciality chemicals, technical textiles and explosives manufacturing, with firms like Eternis, Premier Explosives and MAS Groups contributing to its industrial growth.
Odisha’s strategic location on India’s east coast, combined with its skilled workforce and world-class infrastructure, positions the state as a major hub for global chemical demands.
CM Majhi invited investors to explore the opportunities available and be part of Odisha’s growth story.
