Odisha: Congress Expels Suresh Kumar Routray For 6-Years Over Indiscipline, Anti-Party Activities

Bhubaneswar: The Congress party on Monday expelled Jatni MLA Suresh Kumar Routray for six years due to allegations of indiscipline and anti-party activities. The move comes following complaints and an internal review by the party leadership.

General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), KC Venugopal, confirmed the expulsion in a statement released today, citing concerns over Routray’s actions.

Routray, a veteran Congressman, faced criticism after his son, Manmath, joined the rival Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and secured a ticket to contest the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from the Bhubaneswar constituency.

The decision to expel Routray gained momentum after allegations surfaced that he actively campaigned for his son, who transitioned from a pilot to a politician. Despite the expulsion, Routray expressed his unwavering commitment to the Congress party, vowing to remain a member until his last breath.

“Even though I’ve been expelled from the party, I’ll remain loyal to Congress until my last breath. While my son secured a BJD ticket for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, it doesn’t imply my involvement in anti-party activities. I intend to bring this matter to the attention of the Congress high command. Several Congress leaders in Odisha have violated party discipline and engaged in anti-party actions without facing consequences,” the veteran Congress leader said.
