Bhubaneswar : The Odisha government has ordered to release water from Hirakud Dam to avert a potential flood in Chhattisgarh.
The decision came following a request of his Chhattisgarh counterpart Vishnu Deo Sai.
Considering the continuous rainfall over the past few days, CM Sai requested Odisha CM to release the water from the Hirakud Dam.
Odisha CM Majhi promptly responded to his request and ordered to release of an appropriate quantity of water from Hirakud Dam, keeping the interests of both states in mind.
Odisha CM’s proactive initiative will protect the possible loss of life and property in over two dozen villages, said a senior official of the Chhattisgarh government.
Sai has expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Majhi for his sensitive and timely intervention.
Notably, during previous years, those villages in the upper catchment of Mahanadi river were facing flood situations due to heavy rainfall.
