Odisha CM Inaugurates 650-Bed Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College Hospital in Koraput

Koraput: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday inaugurated a state-of-the-art 650-bed healthcare facility at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput, built at a cost of ₹280 crore. The new hospital is poised to significantly strengthen healthcare access in southern Odisha and neighbouring states.

Announcing future development plans, the Chief Minister revealed that work on the Jeypore-Berhampur-Bhubaneswar Economic Corridor, a proposed six-lane highway aimed at boosting economic growth in Koraput district, will commence soon.

Majhi said vacant posts at the medical college would be filled on a priority basis, ensuring uninterrupted services. The hospital is expected to serve not only the people of Koraput, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur and Rayagada districts, but also patients from adjoining Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Equipped with modern diagnostic and treatment facilities such as CT scan, dialysis, mammography and an in-house oxygen plant, the medical college will also house a dedicated cancer hospital under construction at a cost of Rs. 41.15 crore.

Highlighting Odisha’s expanding medical infrastructure, the Chief Minister said the state currently has 12 government medical colleges, with new institutions planned in Dhenkanal, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak and Nabarangpur. “The state government is committed to filling vacancies in the health sector and delivering quality healthcare to all citizens,” Majhi asserted.
