NTPC Talcher Kaniha Observes World Environment Day 2025

Talcher : NTPC Talcher Super Thermal Power Station, Kaniha, observed World Environment Day on 5th June 2025 with spirited participation and a shared resolve to support the global theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally,” under the powerful slogan #BeatPlasticPollution.

The event began with the solemn administration of the Environmental Pledge in Hindi and Odia by Shri Ch. Satya Rama Krishna, GM (O&M), and Shri Ramesh Kumar Ekka, Regional Officer, OSPCB (Angul), respectively. Both dignitaries emphasized the pressing need for environmental conservation, advocating for eco-friendly lifestyles and the elimination of single-use plastics to safeguard the planet for future generations.

A special address was delivered by Shri S. S. Rao, GM (Maintenance & ADM), who shared a message from the Director (Operations), reaffirming NTPC’s enduring commitment to sustainability and its proactive role in reducing plastic waste across all operational areas.

The key highlight of the celebration was the launch of the Cloth Bag Distribution Initiative, aimed at encouraging sustainable alternatives to single-use plastics. This initiative was followed by the felicitation of Girl Empowerment Mission children, whose vibrant, environmentally themed artworks were recognized for their creativity and relevance.

Further amplifying the day’s message, a Mass Tree Plantation Drive, conducted within the NTPC Kaniha Township premises, with a focus on planting medicinal and fruit-bearing trees — a living testament to NTPC Kaniha’s green vision and ecological responsibility.

On the occasion, various competitions were organized for employees, homemakers, and children to raise awareness about environmental issues, promote sustainable practices, and discourage the use of single-use plastics.

The event also witnessed the gracious presence of HODs, Sectional Heads, CISF personnel, members from Tanvi Sangam ladies club, representatives of employee unions and executive associations, senior officials, school principals, and children from the ongoing GEM program. Their collective participation underscored the success and impact of the event, reinforcing NTPC Kaniha’s role as a leader in environmental stewardship.
