TALCHER:Van Mahotsav was celebrated at NTPC Talcher Kaniha on July 17, 2020. A festival of trees, Van Mahotsav was started in the year 1950 by Shri K.M Munshi, the then Union Minister for Agriculture and Food to create an enthusiasm for the conservation of forests. It is celebrated as an initiative to save the environment & promote greenery through a plantation drive. On this occasion, fruit saplings were planted at an identified location in Stage II of the Township. On this occasion, Chief General Manager, Shri Sudip Nag addressed the small gathering with all social distancing protocols.

Highlighting the special importance of this day, Shri Nag said, “Planting trees is significant in restoring the ecological balance of the environment around us.” He spoke about the efforts of NTPC in its commitment to meet the target of increasing the green cover by planting trees and saplings on every occasion. “In NTPC Talcher Kaniha, till date, we have planted 14.6 lakh trees, and this year, we aim to plant over 30,000 more trees”, he said.

Shri Nag recalled the devastating impact of natural disasters like cyclones that are prone to the coastal state of Odisha. Events like Van Mahotsav, with mass plantation drive, gives us an opportunity to plant more trees and reduce the large-scale destruction in the form of soil erosion. In his concluding remarks, Shri Nag appealed to all to spread the message of growing as many trees as we can and help in making our environment clean and green. All GMs, Heads of departments, senior officials, representatives of Union and Association, and members of Tanvi Sangam were present.
