Ranchi:NTPC Limited delivers stellar half yearly performance in FY 2023-24, in producing coal from its four operational captive coal mines i.e Pakri Barwadih & Chatt-Bariatu Coal Mines in Jharkhand, Dulanga Coal Mine in Odisha and Talaipalli Coal Mine in Chhattisgarh. Till date, NTPC has produced about 85+ million metric tonnes (MMT) of coal since inception. Further mine operations have also started from Kerendari mine in April’23 and coal production is expected to start in current fiscal. NTPC’s captive coal mining fits strategically in its backward integration initiative for providing fuel security to its power generation business.
In FY 22-23, NTPC had produced 23.20 MMT of coal from its four captive coal mines i.e Pakri Barwadih, Dulanga, Talaipalli & Chatti-Bariatu. The coal production in this fiscal till Sep, 2023, was 16.05 MMT, posting a robust 83% growth over the coal production of 8.76 MMT achieved in the same period of last year.
NTPC thus achieved its highest ever production in Q1, Q2 and H1 in FY 23-24. With meticulous planning, resource mobilisation and regular monitoring, NTPC could achieve substantial growth even during the monsoon period and is hopeful of maintaining this increasing trend with an aim to meet the ambitious targets stipulated by the Ministry of Power for FY 23-24.
NTPC has incorporated its 100% wholly owned subsidiary namely, NTPC Mining Limited (NML) for developing the focussed mining competency by creating a dedicated business, and recently the Business Transfer Agreement (BTA) was executed on 17th Aug’23 between NTPC Ltd and NML. Further, the Deed of Adherence (DOA) was signed by the Ministry of Coal (MOC), NTPC, and NML on 27th Sept’23 paving the way for transfer of Badam, Talaipalli, Chatti Bariatu & Chatti Bariatu (South), Kerandari and Dulanga Coal mines. With the signing of the DOA, NML is committed to adhering to the terms of the Coal Mine Development Agreement and the development of mines.
To augment the coal producing capacity, NML has won the first commercial coal mine of North-Dhadu (Eastern part) in the 7th trench of commercial coal auction. Coal Mine Development and production agreement (CMDPA) was signed between NTPC & MoC on 29th Sept’23 for North-Dhadu (Eastern part). By adding the new mine to its portfolio, NML has taken a step forward to reach the target of achieving the capacity of 100 Million metric tonnes per annum.
