Non-Bailable Warrant Issued Against BJP’s BS Yediyurappa Over Sexual Assault Allegations
Bengaluru: A Bengaluru court has issued a non-bailable warrant against BJP leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa after he failed to appear for questioning in a case under the Protection Of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Yediyurappa, 81, has now sought relief from the Karnataka High Court, with a hearing scheduled for tomorrow.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Karnataka police had summoned Yediyurappa for questioning on Wednesday. However, he informed them he had to travel to Delhi for political commitments and proposed to appear on Monday instead.
The case, involving allegations of sexual harassment, was filed on March 14 after a woman accused Yediyurappa of sexually assaulting her 17-year-old daughter during a meeting at his residence in February. The complainant, aged 54, passed away from lung cancer last month.
Yediyurappa has denied the allegations and pledged to fight the case legally.
Earlier today, Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara indicated that Yediyurappa might be arrested if deemed necessary by the CID. In April, the CID had collected a voice sample from Yediyurappa as part of their investigation. The BJP leader has contested the FIR in court.
