Rayagada (Badal Tah): Dongoria & Kutia tribal women belonging to PVTG from Parsali  & Lanjigarh areas of Niyamagiri Hills met Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the venue of grievance redressal at Koraput. These women tied rakhi to CM and sought his blessings. It seems Mohan is the first Chief Minister to tie Rakhi from the Dangoria women.

These impoverished ladies drew attention CM’s attention of perennial neglect and deficit of development process in Niyamagiri region. They also submitted a memorandum to CM mentioning absence of basic amenities & non-functional government’s schemes. The demands in the memorandum included provision of all weather roads, safe drinking water, irrigation, health facilities, residential primary education, pre-primary education(Anganwadi Centres), electricity, PMAY, etc in all the habitations and various other development-related issues. They demanded that Vedanta takes up contextualized CSR programmes in its periphery. The block & tehsil offices should be established in Lajigarh. The PHC should be entire revamped. CM said that a few development schemes are implemented at present and assured the women to fulfill their other demands in a phased manner.

“It will be great if Mohan Majhi empathizes with these PVTG women and gifts basic amenities to them in lieu of the rakhi tied to him by her sisters” said Anubrat Bara from Niyamagiri Surakhya Charitable Trust, who acilitated tthe grievance redressal meet of these PVTG women.
