Delhi,(04/03.26):Bihar could soon witness a major political transition, with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar likely to move to the Rajya Sabha while the Bharatiya Janata Party prepares to take over the top post in the state, sources said on Wednesday.
According to senior leaders in the Janata Dal (United), Kumar is expected to file his nomination for the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is also likely to be present during the filing. Sources indicated that Kumar may step down as chief minister as early as next week.
If the move materialises, Kumar’s son Nishant Kumar is likely to be inducted into the state government as Deputy Chief Minister. The chief minister’s post is expected to go to a BJP leader, signalling a shift in the power balance within the NDA in Bihar.
Among the frontrunners for the role are Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai. Patna Digha MLA Sanjeev Chaurasia’s name has also surfaced in internal discussions.
The development would mark the end of a long political era. Nitish Kumar, 75, is Bihar’s longest-serving chief minister and has taken oath a record 10 times. Despite multiple alliance shifts, he has remained a dominant figure in the state’s politics for nearly two decades.
