New CWC formed in Rayagada: Bidulata Huika takes charge as Chairperson

Rayagada, January 5: Child Welfare Committee(CWC) has been reconstituted and Bidulata Huika has become its new Chairperson after taking over charge from her predecessor Sri Raj Kishore Sahu in presence of Sri Ramesh Chandra Nayak, District Child Protection officer and other staff members of District Child Protection Unit.
In accordance with the provisions under section-29 of the Juvenile Justice (Care & Protection of Children) Act, the State Government constituted CWC in Rayagada for exercising the powers & to discharge duties, conferred on such committees in relation to Children in Need of Care & Protection under this Act and Rule.
The Committee shall have the final authority to dispose of cases for the care, protection, treatment, development and rehabilitation of the children as well as to provide for their basic needs and protection of human rights. The Committee shall have the power to deal exclusively with all proceedings under this Act relating to children in need of care and protection.
The CWC will work for children in difficult circumstances, which include children without family support, children forced into labour, abused/trafficked children, children on streets, children affected by substance abuse, children in armed conflict/civil unrest/natural calamity etc.
Other members of CWC include Kailash Chandra Palo, Priyadarshini Mahakul, Jyostnamayi Padhi & Gagarin Sabar.
This Committee shall function as a Bench for next three years and shall have the powers conferred by the Code of Criminal Procedure,1973(2of1974) on a Judicial Magistrate of First Class. “The child rights are human rights. CWC is yet another powerful instrument of the State, which can be used by people to ensure the rights of the children”, said Huika. The Chairman and the members of the CWC, Rayagada have appealed the local NGOs, PRIs, concerned govt deptts, social workers & public in general to bring to notice the children in distress in the district for redressal of their plights.
