MOST ESSENTIAL RS.100CR PACKAGE BY NAVEEN PATNAIK FOR URBAN POOR

II ODISHABARTA II

BHUBANESWAR:CM of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik is truly a leader of substance, this is being proved by many decisions he has taken in the recent past. Let it be the declaration of lockdown before PM announces it, making mask is compulsory while going outside, first state to announce extension of lockdown in India and taking things seriously to control corona by giving police a free hand to come hard on regular offenders breaking laws of lockdown.

He is simply exceptional and today he has declared a package of Rs.100crore for urban poor looking at their income loss due to lockdown.Presumably he is one of the finest visionaries of this country who speaks less and works more.

The declaration has come to facilitate livelihood opportunities for the 4.5 lakhs poor living in more than 100 urban local bodies. This money will be spent on labor intensive works like waste management repair and renovation of water bodies, rejuvenation of parks,  playgrounds, construction of work sheds for self help groups, construction of toilets, a forestation and beautification of urban areas.

It also said by the office of CM that wall painting and mural painting works will be undertaken, where employment will be given to local artists and these activities will start in a week time and will continue till September.

During these activities all care should be taken for social distancing and it will benefit to the urban poor, laborers and daily wagers because during this lockdown period they are the worst victim and have lost their income. To compensate this they need income where this financial allocation will take care. Whatever the payment will arise for these workers will be directly sent to their respective bank account every week. This move is a game changer in this pandemic, corona.

The programmme under ‘Urban Wage Employment Initiative’ will generate employment for 4.50 lakh families residing in 114 municipal areas across the state.

With cooperation of Mission Shakti groups, the programme will be implemented from this month till September this year.

Under the programme, poor, labourers and daily wage workers will be engaged in various works like sanitization of drains, digging and renovation of water bodies, development of playgrounds and various sports infrastructures, construction of public toilets and beautification of urban areas.

Besides, local artistes will be given opportunity for doing wall paintings/murals.

Wage of the beneficiaries will be directly transferred to their bank accounts every week.

However, the workers will be asked to make sure that they maintain social distance and adhere to other guidelines of COVID-19 while working.

Odisha CM hoped that the programme will help the economically weaker section of the society.
