Berhampur,(15/03/2026): This year the Forest department has initiated a drive to sensitise fishermen to adopt measures for ensuring the safety of the endangered Olive Ridley turtles.

More than fifty  endangered Olive Ridley turtles were found dead on Haripur beach in Ganjam, Odisha, on 15 March ,2026, amid the annual nesting season. Local residents discovered the carcasses, with some being fed on by stray dogs (?). The cause of the mass mortality is under investigation, said by a senior officer with possibilities including  may be illegal movement of trawler activity or marine pollution.

 A distressing scene  seen by the villagers  at Haripur beach in Ganjam district on Sunday morning as local residents discovered more than 50 (approx) endangered Olive Ridley sea turtles lying dead since morning (?) .Villagers claimed  Stray dogs were seen feeding on the carcasses, adding to the grim sight during the nesting period. Forest and wildlife officials are yet to conduct detailed post-mortems or investigations, but such incidents raise serious concerns about conservation efforts during this vulnerable phase when thousands of turtles arrive to lay eggs.  Told by Wildlife expert Nothing clarified to press however  television media repeating the news frequentely

According to villagers this year the mass nesting  figure is god 10200 

The deaths come as the annual mass nesting season for Olive Ridley turtles gains momentum along Odisha’s coast.

Questions are mounting over the cause, with no clear indication yet whether the fatalities resulted from natural factors, by catch in fishing nets, pollution, or other threats.

One senior BJP leader (State posioned) told last night the Forest Babus’ working with his previous 5T Blood group,probaly forgetted they working under Loka ka Sarkar espcially he pointed Berhamour Forest division.Last one year the DFO office run by two three mediators even DFO not listening my matter after 24 years (?))

Local residents reported the patrolling , of 24X7 hours department  deployed staff  for the safety of turtle but this year due tor  lack of monitoring by the higher  authority such unexpected mishap would have avoided.

The Babus have yet  not determine to find out the cause of death because of  various type of reports are coming. ? No fact finding team not yet constituted.

We getting such news  tried to get in touch with forest minister but he is pre occupied.
