Minor girl raped by school peon: Irate mob torch police van

Rayagada, September 23: A minor girl studying in Class-III in Dangasil UP school of Kashipur block was raped by the school peon named Sibaram Mishra. Last Friday, the girl, who is a day scholar in the school under ST, SC Development(SSD) deptt of Govt of Odisha, was on her way to the school after taking lunch at her home. Sibaram lured the girl and called her to his room, closed the door and raped her. The girl’s friends saw her crying in pain and profusely bleeding. The informed the school headmaster and her mother.
The irate mob of the village near the school assembled in front of the police outpost at Dongasil and demanded the school authority to handover the culprit to them. According to them, victims hardly get justice in these kind of cases.
They reiterated that no FIR would be lodged by anyone including the family members against the culprit. By this time, police reached the spot and arrested the culprit. Haunching any kind of untoward incident and threat to the life of the culprit, police did not budge to the repeated demand of public to handover the culprit. The angry mob then torch the police van and vandalised a bolero jeep. There was lathi charge by police, who detained six persons for interrogation.
In the mean time, police facilitated health check up of the victim girl at Dangasil PHC, which then referred the case to District Headquarters Hospital(DHH) at Rayagada. According to the sources from DHH, the condition of the minor victim girl is stable. Five platoons of police force under the leadership of Additional SP, Rayagada are camping near the school as the situation is still tense. Fearing incessant arrests, almost all the male members have abandoned the village. Many parents, whose wards are studying in the school, have reached the school to withdraw their children citing deficit of safety measures in the school.
Bidulata Huika, Chairperson, Child Welfare Committee(CWC), Rayagada expressed her serious concern about the incident. She alongwith a team of members from CWC ahs arrived at the DHH and interacted with the victim girl & her mother. CWC has assured them of necessary justice according to rule of law. Meanwhile the accused peon has been suspended and the school headmaster has been issued a show cause notice. Police is also having strict vigil over the incident. There is promulgation under section 144 IPC.
