Medical Seats in Odisha Reduced by 50 for 2025-26 Academic Year
Bhubaneswar: The number of medical seats in Odisha has been reduced to 1,813 for the 2025–26 academic session, down by 50 from last year.
The drop comes after the National Medical Commission (NMC) cut MBBS seats at DRIEMS Institute of Health Sciences and Hospital from 100 to 50, according to the Odisha Joint Entrance Examination (OJEE) authorities.
In 2024, the state had 1,863 medical seats, including 1,709 MBBS and 154 BDS. This year, the MBBS seat count stands at 1,659, excluding the 15% All India quota.
Key allocations include 213 seats at MKCGMCH, Berhampur; 212 at SCB, Cuttack; 170 at VIMSAR, Burla; and at FM Medical College, Balasore, SJMCH, Puri, DDMCH, Keonjhar, GMC Sundargarh, GMC Bhawanipatna, and BBMC Balangir; 42 at JKMCH, Jajpur; 170 at VIMSAR, Burla; and 106 at SLN MC, Koraput. Ten percent of all seats are reserved under the EWS quota.
According to OJEE Chairman DP Satpathy, the state quota counselling began on July 30 and has been extended to August 2. The state merit list will be released on August 3, with choice filling open until August 6. Provisional seat allotment is scheduled for August 7, followed by admissions from August 8 to 14.
