Media Faculty Dr Pradeep Mahapatra Critically Ill
Bhubaneswar : Retired HoD of Department of Journalism & Mass Communication at Berhampur University, Dr Pradeep Mahapatra is critically ill. He is undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals, Bhubaneswar.
Dr Mahapatra fell ill a few days back and was then brought from Berhampur to Bhubaneswar for treatment. He was diagnosed with critical stage of pneumonia. While undergoing treatment at this private facility, his condition deteriorated leading him to be put on ventilator support.
During treatment, he suffered a cardiac arrest and sustained serious damage to his brain. Dr Mahapatra’s spouse Manoj Manjari Patnaik and other relatives are attending him at the hospital.
Dr. Mahapatra started his career in journalism from Berhampur in Southern Odisha and later entered the field of mass communication education. Even after retirement, he continued to write in different media. He was active to analyse the changing trends of the global media and highlighting the same via social media drawing wide attention of mass communication professionals.
After hearing about Dr. Mahapatra’s illness, his students & friends in the country and abroad along with prominent media personalities of Odisha have expressed their concern and wished him a speedy recovery.
