Man Sentenced to 20 Yrs Jail for raping Minor Girl in Ganjam Dist
Berhampur: A man identified as Prashant Nahak was convicted and sentenced to 20 years imprisonment by a POCSO court in Berhampur on Monday for raping a minor girl in 2022.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 12,000 on Nahak. The court directed the Ganjam District Legal Services Authority to provide Rs 5 lakh compensation to the victim.
As per the chargesheet, the convict raped the minor girl in the Khallikote area of Ganjam district on May 15, 2022. He forcibly entered her house while her parents were not at home and raped her.
Following a complaint from the victim’s family, the police registered a case and arrested Nahak.
The court took statements of 14 witnesses and other evidence to pass the verdict against the convict.
