Man Killing Wife, 2-Year-Old Daughter By Cobra Snake Into Bedroom In Ganjam

Ganjam:One Ganesh Patra, a 25-year-old man from Adheigaon, Ganjam district, was arrested for using a venomous snake as a murder weapon to kill his wife Basanti Patra and their two-year-old daughter Debasmita.

The motive behind the murder seems to be a family dispute and the lure of government compensation of Rs 8 lakh.

In a horrifying incident, a man identified as K. Ganesh reportedly unleashed a venomous snake on his wife and two-year-old daughter as they slept in their home in Adheibara village under Kabisuryanagar police jurisdiction in Ganjam,Odisha.

Basing on the report by the Complainant, B. Khali Patra (64), Kabisuryanagar Police registered a case No-615 Dt. 12.10.2023 U/S-302/34 IPC,arrested persons: K.Ganesh Patra(25), S/O-K.Dhanku Patra, Vill-Adheibara, PS-Kabisuryanagar, Dt-Ganjam.

The Police also  Seized  Mobile phone of the accused, voice call recording of the alleged accused to one snake charmer with his mobile phone.

Police investigations unveiled a grim motive behind the gruesome act. Ganesh, a migrant worker, allegedly committed the heinous crime due to a family dispute triggered by the accused’s alleged dowry demand.

 The victims, his wife K. Basanti Patra, and their daughter, lost their lives in the shocking incident.

“The couple was happy post their marriage, and were blessed with a daughter. However, marital discord soon broke out between the couple. Previously  wife had lodged a police complaint alleging dowry torture by the husband. Following her complaint, the couple lived separately for a while. However, a few months before the tragic incident, the couple had begun to cohabit,” shared Kabisruyanagar police officials.

During this period, Ganesh meticulously planned the murder of his wife. On September 26, he obtained a SIM card in his father’s name and used it to contact local snake charmers, seeking a venomous snake for worship at a Lord Shiva temple, as per police statements.

Tragedy struck on the night of October 6 when Ganesh released the snake into the room where his wife and daughter slept. The snake’s bites resulted in the immediate death of both victims. On the morning of October 7, Ganesh alerted neighbours to the tragic demise of his wife and child.

Suspicious of the deaths, the wife’s father lodged a police complaint requesting further investigation into the case.

 During interrogation, Ganesh confessed before police.

 Necessay,Accused K Ganesh Patra has been arrested and forwarded on Thursday.Further investigation in the case is going on.
