Major Infrastructural Overhaul in Muniguda Railway Station through Amrit Station Scheme

Rayagada (Badal Tah): In a landmark move towards enhancing regional connectivity and modernizing public transport infrastructure, Indian Railways has initiated the redevelopment of key railway stations in Odisha under the Amrit Station Scheme. Among the key beneficiaries of this initiative is Muniguda Railway Station, which is undergoing a significant transformation to align with global standards of efficiency, sustainability and passenger comfort.

The Amrit Station Scheme, a flagship program of Indian Railways, focuses on the comprehensive upgrade of major and mid-level stations across India. The initiative emphasizes modern passenger amenities, green building practices, and inclusive infrastructure, with the goal of creating future-ready transport hubs that meet the evolving needs of commuters.

Key Features of Station Redevelopment under Amrit Station Scheme include revamped station buildings with contemporary waiting lounges, advanced ticketing systems, and improved platform surfaces, construction of a wide new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) and facilities to aid movement for Divyangjan, senior citizens, and families with children, integration of solar energy solutions, water conservation systems, and sustainable waste management practices, provision of high-speed Wi-Fi, digital information boards, upgraded toilet facilities, state-of-the-art security systems, and improved food and beverage services, redesigned circulating areas with better drop-off/pick-up lanes, enhanced parking, and improved access roads,, which aims at generating employment, promoting tourism, and supporting regional trade and mobility.

The redevelopment of Muniguda Station is being carried out at an estimated cost of ₹20.16 crore, with the project scope including improvement to the front façade of the existing station building, construction of a wide new Foot Over Bridge (FOB), raising and resurfacing of platforms with new shelters, installation of coach indication boards and standard signage, provision of Divyangjan-friendly facilities, modernized toilets and lift access, installation of a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) with an overhead tank and pipeline connections, etc.

This strategic overhaul is expected to catalyze economic and cultural development in the region, unlocking Muniguda’s potential as a hub for tourism, trade and inclusive growth. Indian Railways has committed to timely and phased execution of the project, ensuring minimal disruption to passengers while steadily progressing toward a green, inclusive and future-ready railway ecosystem.
