Janajatiya Gourav Divas celebrated in different parts of Rayagada

Rayagada, November 16: The government has decided to celebrate the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas since 2021. Shri Birsa Munda made an invaluable contribution to the freedom struggle by spearheading the tribal movement against the oppressive British rule and made tireless efforts to protect the rights of the tribals. Accordingly, to commemorate the contributions of tribal leaders of Odisha like Sahid Laxman Nayak, this day was celebrated at various places like Kashipur, Rayagada and Gunupur.
Rayagada MLA Makaranda Muduli graced the celebration at Dudukabahal in Kashipur block where tribal & dalit leaders namely Block Chairman Kantha Majhi, Sibaram Majhi, Sadan Majhi, Bidyadhar Duria, Sibaram Nayak and hundreds of other locals participated. Similarly Ex-Chief Minister Giridhar Gomango joined as Chief Guest in a function held at Chaiti ground in Gunupur. Several luminaries including Pramoda Sahu, President Press Union & President Radhakrushna Pattanayak, Press Club. Falgunu Sabar, Kailash Sabar & Bidya Sabar moderated the entire programme.
Bijaya Meleka, a youth tribal leader organised an eventat Chekaguda village of Rayagada block under the aegis of Rayagada Adibasi Mahasangha. Students of Rayagada autonomous college participated. Tribal Guru of Kandhamal named Lankeswar Kahanr & his team presented the Kui script in digital mode.
Tribals of Rayagada have appreciated the efforts of Collector Swadha Dev Singh in facilitating a process of including Dangaria Kandha’s Kapda Gunda shawl and Lanjia Soura’s Idital Art in GI tag.
They appreciated the efforts of Singh in recommending govt to include Saura language “Sora Sompeng” and Kondh language “Kui” in 8th schedule of Indian constitution.
