International Day of the Deaf celebrated in Sunabeda

Sunabeda: 01/10/23: The International Day of the Deaf has been celebrated in Sunabeda Hearing Impaired School with the support of Odisha Government’s Department of Social Security and Disability Empowerment and Koraput District Administration.

President of Koraput District Association of the Deaf Shaik Ibrahim attended the programme as Chief Guest while General Secretary Chintamani Prusty attended as Guest of Honour. School Head Master Kelu Charan Mohanty presided over the meeting. The programme was started with paying profound tribute Helen Keller – the leading advocate for persons with Disabilities.On this occasion, the Chief Guest, Mr. Ibrahim highlighted the educational, social and economic problems of hearing impaired persons and hoped that the State Government  would take appropriate measures to solve this problem. He urged that, the school for the hearing impaired at Sunabeda should be upgraded up to Senior Secondary level with provision of vocational training.School Head Master Kelu Charan Mohanty highlighted the significance and importance of International Day of the Deaf.The winners of the drawing competition organized  to mark  the occasion were awarded by the Guests.  Interpreter Meena Kumari translated the  speeches of the  Guests into Sign language.

The senior teacher of the school, Narayan Mania proposed the vote of thanks.All the students, teachers, staff and members of the Koraput District Deaf Association participated in the Programme.
