Inter-State co-ordination meeting held for safe elections
Bhubaneswar : Senior officers from the Odisha and West Bengal police departments convened a virtual inter-state coordination meeting on Friday to ensure the integrity of elections in districts situated along the border of the two neighboring states.
The meeting saw the participation of senior officials from both states, including Odisha’s Director General of Police (DGP) Arun Kumar Sarangi, his West Bengal counterpart Sanjay Mukherjee, and Superintendents of Police from border districts.
During the discussion, Sarangi emphasized the importance of curbing the illegal trafficking of contraband brown sugar from areas such as Bardhaman, Lalgola, and Murshidabad in West Bengal into Odisha. He underscored the necessity for effective coordination between police personnel from both states to apprehend major drug traffickers involved in this illicit trade.
The participants engaged in detailed deliberations regarding plans for heightened scrutiny at border checkpoints, crackdowns on unlawful activities involving excise products such as alcohol, firearms, narcotics, and illicit cash transactions.
