New Delhi: India on Friday banned 47 more Chinese apps. This is in addition to 59 China-based apps banned in June-end.
These 47 apps were acting as clones of the 59 Chinese apps that were banned earlier. The government said that those violating the order would face serious action.
The banned apps on June included popular ones like TikTok, CamScanner, SHAREit and UC Browser.
The Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology has written to concerned companies that the apps’ continued availability and operation, directly or indirectly, was illegal as well as an offence under the Information Technology Act and other applicable Acts.
The government communication underlined that apps were banned in exercise of the sovereign powers and Section 69A of the Information Technology Act.
The IT ministry said that the apps were “engaged in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.”
