Illegal parking on NHs and SHs will lead to jail and heavy fines
Bhubaneswar: In a much welcome step, the authorities have decided to take strict action against illegal parking on NHs (National Highways) and SHs (State Highways).
Reports say that, the drivers who park illegally on National highways or State highways will be sent to jail. The Transport Commissioner has ordered strict compliance with Section 105 of the Indian Penal Code. In the last 20 months, 759 accidents have occurred due to illegal parking in the state, in which 345 people have lost their lives.
Therefore, the Odisha Transport Commissioner has ordered all the district police officers to be vigilant. Section 105 of the Indian Penal Code provides for the death of another person by the specific act of a person without any intention. Section 105 of the BNS provides for imprisonment from five years to life.
Hence, all those who park illegally on National highways and State highways be cautious or it could lead to jail. Last year in December, during the promotion of Odisha zero fatality week, the RTO-1 in Bhubaneswar has warned about fine for illegal parking.
According to reports, after a heart-rending accident in Keonjhar, the Bhubaneswar Regional Transport Office (RTO)- 1 urged truck drivers to park in the allocated parking place. He had further added that in case the rule is not followed, heavy fines shall be levied and necessary action shall be taken.
Hence, truck drivers have been urged to park only in the allotted parking spots on the National Highway there shall be heavy fine for illegal parking. The RTO had further informed that due to the Odisha zero fatality week, massive traffic enforcement drives were carried out in various parts of the capital city. Checking was being done on the basis of illegal parking, drunken driving, driving without valid driving licence or helmet and underage driving.
