Abhaya Kumar Padhi, former ADG, Prasar Bharati, and Guest faculty at IIMC Dhenkanal, passed away after testing positive for Covid-19

RESPECT TO ABHAYA KUMAR PADHI

Dhenkanal, 21 September 2020: Professor Mrinal Chatterjee, Regional Director IIMC Dhenkanal, the faculty and the other staff members paid tributes to former ADG, PrasarBharati,Abhaya Kumar Padhiwho passed away on Monday after testing positive for Covid-19. A condolence meeting was organized on IIMC campus in memory to MrPadhi who was also a mentor of the institute, on Monday evening.

“We are shocked and saddened to hear that Abhaya Kumar Padhi is no more. He was a true well-wisher of IIMC Dhenkanal. His guidance has helped the institute since the beginning. His persistent efforts to the field of radio broadcasting are laudable. Especially, in teaching the nuances of radio with regard to broadcasting and news presentation to the students of IIMC Dhenkanal is unforgettable. He was a good administrator, radio broadcaster. More importantly, He was an extremely humble and knowledgeable person. He used to teach radio broadcasting at IIMC Dhenkanal since1993. We will miss his presence at IIMC Dhenkanal.  Condolences to his family,” Prof. Mrinal Chatterjee said.

Assistant Prof. Sambit Pal remembered Abhaya Kumar Padhi in condolence meet saying, “Padhi Sir was someone from whom we could get a positive response when we were in dilemma in making a decision. He was happy when I and another assistant professor Dr Jyoti Prakash Mohapatra joined here at IIMC as faculty. It’s a real big loss to me and IIMC Dhenkanal. Om Shanti.”

Abhaya Kumar Padhi was former Additional Director General (ADG) of PrasarBharati; He started his career as a lecturer. Later he joined the Indian Information Service and served All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan in various capacities in different places across India including Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram. He finally retired as ADG of Prasar Bharati. He was associated with IIMC, Dhenkanal since its inception in 1999 and taught Broadcast Journalism as a guest faculty. He was also a columnist and poet.
