IAS OFFICER CAUGHT TAKING BRIBE, SUSPENDED

Bhubaneswar: Vigilance sleuths on Monday caught an IAS officer of 2009 batch red-handed while demanding and accepting Rs 1 lakh as bribe.
The arrested officer has been identified as Bijay Ketan Upadhyay. He is currently posted as director of the Horticulture department.
Sources said, Upadhyay had demanded bribe from one for passing the bill. Acting on the allegation, the anti-corruption wing laid a trap and caught the officer red-handed while accepting the illegal gratification.
Following this, simultaneous raids are also being carried out at his residence and office. Reportedly, several documents and papers are being verified.
As per the latest report, the accused IAS officer has been placed under suspension by the State Government. “Transparency is an important pillar of this government and we will not spare anyone indulging in any corrupt practices,” an official statement read.
