Berhampur: Heavy downpour triggered by a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal disrupted normal life in several parts of Southern Odisha on Saturday snapping road connectivity, submerging low lying areas and damaging mud houses in some places in Ganjam,Gajapati and Koraput.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall coupled with strong surface wind is likely to persist in many parts of the state till August 17 under the influence of the low pressure area, which has become well marked, the Meteorological Centre here said.
The MeT Centre also forecast the likelihood of the formation of another low pressure area over north Bay of Bengal around August 19. Odisha has already encountered intense rainfall due to the formation of three back-to-back low pressure areas this month.
