Ghee Used at Puri Srimandir to Undergo Quality Checks Following Tirupati Laddu Row
Puri: Amid concerns over the use of adulterated ghee at Andhra Pradesh’s Tirupati temple, Puri district Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain announced on Tuesday that the ghee used at Puri’s Srimandir will undergo inspection.
Although no complaints have been made about the quality of ghee used in the preparation of Prasad at Srimandir, the recent issue at Tirupati has prompted the Puri administration to take precautionary measures. Swain stated that the ghee’s quality will be tested as a preventive step.
“There is no allegation about the quality of the ghee used for Prasad in Srimandir. Still, we will test the quality of it. Our food safety unit will do it. In the coming days, we will discuss with OMFED or other suppliers and the Suar Mahasuar Nijog to have a standardised ghee for Prasad preparation,” he stated.
Additionally, Swain mentioned that the ghee used for lighting lamps in the temple will also be tested. “Our weight and measure and food safety teams will conduct a joint inspection,” he added.
