GENDER-EQUALITY FOR COMMAND-POSTS IN ARMY – NEXT SHOULD BE WOMEN-RESERVATION-BILL FOR LEGISLATURE

Bureau,Odishabarta

Delhi:It refers to long-awaited but welcome Supreme Court decision allowing permanent commission to women in non-combat roles (excluding infantry, artillery and armoured corps) after women entered 28 years back in the army. Funny arguments put before the Supreme Court against the petition were in fact derogatory for women which constitute half of the population.

Women-discrimination was a global phenomenon till some decades back when Rotary International was reserved only for males. When quizzed, Rotary International used to reply that ladies were associated with Rotary movement by being members of Inner-Wheel club which is there for wives of Rotarians. But entry of women had to be opened to women when the world-renowned service-club was answerless how personalities like women Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi (India) or Sirimavo Bandarnaike (Srilanka) could be associated with Rotary since both of them were widows while holding post of Prime Minister of their respective countries.

Time has come to legislate Women-Reservation-Bill giving women uniform 33-percent reservation in legislature at all levels from Parliament to civic bodies or village-panchayats as was also rightly advocated by Vice President of India on 11.11.2019. Many political parties cry for reservation on man-made aspects like religion and cast evidently for vote-bank politics, but oppose reservation to women which still remain dominated section of society created by nature in our male-dominated political system. Even Islamic world including Pakistan and many other democratic countries have adopted Women-Reservation in legislature.
