Bermhapur : A 15-year-old minor girl from Ganjam district, who was staying with her family in Mumbai, became pregnant. However, due to threats from the accused’s family, the minor girl returned to her village and was admitted to MKCG Medical College for an abortion without informing anyone. After coming to know about the incident, the Baidyanathpur police station has registered a zero FIR. After receiving a tip-off from the Berhampur police, the Park Site police in Mumbai have arrested the accused, Sanjay Rathod (23), a resident of Mumbai. According to the information received, the family of the minor girl from Ganjam district has been living and working in Mumbai for the past 14

years. The minor was also studying there. Last March, when the minor was going to a school there, Sanjay, a youth from the area, took her to his house and forcibly had physical intercourse with her. A few days later, he found out that the minor was pregnant. After that, the minor took abortion pills there. But it did not work. After that, the minor told her family about the incident. When the minor’s family went to Sanjay’s house to discuss the matter, his family threatened to kill her. As a result, the minor and her family left Mumbai and returned to their village out of fear, finding no other way out. Two days ago, the family was admitted to the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of MKCG Medical College in Berhampur for an abortion. After the examination, the doctors found that the minor was 9 months pregnant. After the Baidyanathpur police station was informed about this, the police reached the maternity department and questioned the minor and her family members and the entire incident came to light. Based on the statement of the minor, the police registered a zero FIR and informed the Park Site police station in Mumbai. The Park Site police arrested the accused Sanjay after questioning. Meanwhile, the Baidyanathpur police station rescued the minor and handed her over to the Child Welfare Committee. The police are trying to provide the minor with treatment, rehabilitation and financial assistance and have requested the Child Welfare Committee.
