GANJAM – LATHI CHARGE ON PROTESTERS IN HINJILI, MAJOR UNREST WITNESSED

GANJAM,(Hinjili):As miscreants on Friday set sand-laden vehicles on fire at Kolidaspur under Hinjili block under Aska police Sub Division in Ganjam district, cops later detained few locals for their alleged connection with the incident.

However, locals have staged a dharma in front of Hinjili police station demanding the release of 10 persons who have been detained in connection with the torching of 8 sand-laden vehicles on August 21.

When the situation went rash and beyond the control, cops reportedly resorted to lathi-charge to disperse agitating locals in Hinjili.

Speaking to Odishabarta, SDPO,Suryamani Pradhan SDPO, said, this was a continuation to the incident on Friday when locals had set sand-laden vehicles on fire in Hinjili block.The locals had gheraoed the police station this morning demanding release of the detainees who were picked up by police. As the situation went from bad to worse, cops reportedly resorted to lathi-charge today to disperse the agitating locals in Hinji and we suspected involvement of a group of anti-socials in this incident.

They were lifting sand in eight vehicles, including two tractors, three trucks and two motorcycles from a riverbed at Kolidaspur following which locals reportedly set the vehicles on fire last night in an act to showcase their anger.
