Gang of 4 Looters arrested in Berhampur; Above 100 Mobile phones seized

Berhampur,28/11/25):Berhampur Bada Bazar Police has reportedly busted a looters’ gang and arrested a total of four members of the gang, on Friday..
The police release reveal that,on 28After verification it was found that, the suspects were having one air bag. On being asked about the bag, they fumbled. Hence, verified the bag & found that there were a large number of smart phones of different brands, i.e., approximately 100s smart phones inside the bag in switch off condition. On asking them about the possession of the smart phones, they could not state any valid reason about the possession of such large numbers of smart phones. On thorough interrogation, they confessed that all those smart phones are stolen phones & they bought it at low price from outside state and are planning to sell them in outside state.
They are also indulged in stealing smart phones from several people from crowded places and they dispose the phones at various places as per their convenience.
Their identities are 1. Das Sonu (20) S/o Das Gopi & 2. Das Sahil Kumar (31), the pillion rider, S/o Late Das Motilal both of Vill – Damodarpalli, PS – Dharakote, Dist. Ganjam. As it constitutes an offence U/s 303(2)/317(2)/3(5) BNS, after counting, seized a total of 87 numbers of smart phones of various brands in switch off condition (as per seizure list), one air bag, one Suzuki Access scooty.
As prima facie evidence U/S 303(2)/317(2)/3(5) BNS well established against the accused persons namely 1. Das Sonu (20) S/o Das Gopi & 2. Das Sahil Kumar (31), the pillion rider, S/o Late Das Motilal both of Vill – Damodarpalli, PS – Dharakote, Dist. Ganjam, they were arrested. The accused Das Sonu while being in police custody confessed that he along with his 3 other associates were engaged in stealing of mobile phones from different areas including Chennai, Hyderabad, etc. and after repairing the said mobile phones, they used to sell the phones in different stores as per their convinence. For the said purpose, they have taken a house on rent at Srikhetra Vihar area and after preparing the phones, used to sell the phones as new phones. Accused Sonu Das led to the rented house and gave discovery of two air bags containing more mobile phones and one jerry bag containing 98 numbers of phone back cover. The other 2 associates namely Das Raja and Paspuleti Srinivasulu of Andhra Pradesh were apprehended from the said house, as they were actively engaged in stealing and disposal of the stolen mobile phones.
Seizure;
1. 342 mobile phones (VIVO- 109, OPPO- 66, Samsung- 37, Realme- 27, Redmi- 30, iQ00- 20, Motorola- 15, 1+- 16, iphone- 6, Infinix- 3, POCO- 8, Nothing- 5).
2. Three air bags, one jerry bag with 98 phone back covers.
3. One Suzuki Access scooty bearing Regd No. OD07AD1727.
Police also have started search operations at different places to arrest other members of the gang who are on the run.
All the above 4 accused persons were arrested and forwarded to Court on 29.11.2025. The investigation of the case is in progress.
