FUNDING FOR MAJOR RURAL DRINKING WATER SUPPLY PROJECTS IN KORAPUT DISTRICT

Koraput:Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has inaugurated a scheme for the people of Koraput district, known as the Upanishads.  He has always been concerned about the betterment of the people of the tribal areas.  A blazing example of this was seen yesterday.  In the last cabinet, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has sanctioned Rs 462.48 crore for the construction of mega water supply projects under the Water Livelihood Mission (JJM) scheme for 568 villages in 54 panchayats under Dashmantapur, Laxmipur, Narayanpatna, Bandhugaon, Nandapur and Semiliguda blocks in 6 blocks of the district.  The project is expected to be completed within two years.  The project will benefit 250,000 people.  Residents, especially mothers in the suburbs, no longer have to stand in line for drinking water.  While clean water is essential for all of us at all times, the project has made people smile.  The district BJD, including district BJD president and state seed corporation chairman Ishwar Chandra Panigahi, thanked the chief minister at a press conference at the local circuit house today.

Many BJD workers, including Koraput MLA Raghuram Padal, Pattangi MLA Pitam Padhi, Koraput city president Suresh Patnaik and district vice-president Utkal Ranjan Nayak, were present at the conference.  The people of Koraput district have thanked the Chief Minister for this mega project.  In addition, Rs 66 crore has already been sanctioned for the Sindhiput Bridge in the Lamtaput block of the district, while the tender will be opened on December 5 and work will begin, MLA Raghuram Padal said.  The people of Banamaliput, Umbel, Tikarpada, Kumar Gandana, Lankaput and Suku gram panchayats in the four panchayats of Lamtaput block, known as the cutoff area, will benefit from the bridge, he said.
