Fugitive Mehul Choksi Arrested in Belgium Following India’s Extradition Request

New Delhi: Fugitive multimillionaire Mehul Choksi, involved in Rs 13000 crore PNB bank fraud, was arrested in Belgium.
Choksi was arrested by the Belgian authorities following an extradition request by Indian probe agencies.
Choksi was tracked down in Belgium in 2024. He was staying in Antigua since 2018 after escaping from India.
A special court in Mumbai had issued two arrest warrants against Choksi in 2018 and 2021. Indian agencies handed them to their Belgian counterparts as part of the extradition request, sources said.
Choksi, Nirav Modi, their family members and employees, bank officials and others were booked by the CBI and the ED in 2018 for perpetrating the alleged loan fraud at the Brady House branch of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) in Mumbai.
Nirav Modi is also declared a fugitive economic offender. He is now lodged in a London jail after his arrest there in 2019 on the basis of a legal request made by the ED and the CBI in this case. He is contesting extradition to India.
