Focus on cutting edge technologies to meet future challenges: QRT

Patna : The fourth meeting of the Quinquennial Review Team (QRT) constituted by ICAR, New Delhi took place at ICAR-RCER, Patna from June 24-26, 2024. The purpose of the meeting was to assess the performance of the institute and its centers from 2018 to 2023 & suggest future strategies for its development to meet the mandate. The meeting was chaired by Prof. S.K. Chakravarty, Former Vice-Chancellor, UBKV & Ex-Director, ICAR-CPRI, Shimla with Dr. A.K. Patra, Emeritus Scientist & Former Director, ICAR- IISS, Bhopal; Dr. S. Raizada, Former ADG (Fisheries), ICAR, New Delhi; Dr. Anjani Kumar, Senior Research Fellow, IFPRI, NASC Complex, New Delhi; and Dr. Chandrahas, Dean, College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Kishanganj as members of the team.
Dr. Anup Das, Director of ICAR-RCER, Patna, provided an overview of the institute’s ongoing activities and accomplishments. Dr. Kamal Sarma, Member Secretary, QRT coordinated the program. The QRT visited laboratories and fields, acknowledging the institute’s achievements and offering feedback on its current and future plans. The chairman and members appreciated the research & extension efforts of the institute in developing improved technologies including varieties, farming system modules, registering indigenous breeds, climate resilient practices and many others. QRT recommended substantial improvement of infrastructure and facilities to strengthen the research, extension and teaching qualities of the institute.
The QRT interacted with the scientific, technical, and administrative personnel of the institute, motivating them to continue their efforts in service to the institute, farming community, and the nation. Additionally, on June 25, 2024, the team visited ICAR–NRC for Makhana, Darbhanga, assessing its operations and providing recommendations and priorities for the institute.
