Extortion in the name of D-brothers, two held in Cuttack

Cuttack,05/11/23: In an interesting case in Cuttack city of Odisha two people landed in police custody for trying to extort money using the name of the famous gangsters D Brothers.
The duo including a tuition teacher, were arrested on Sunday on charges of extorting money in the name of the gangster of D-Brothers who are currently lodged in jail.
The two arrested have been identified as Mantu alias Kamalakant Barik and Babu alias Dilip Kumar Das, a tuition teacher. While one hails from Jagatsinghpur, the other is a native of Dhenkanal.
According to reports, Chauliaganj police in Cuttack seized cash to the tune of Rs 91,000, two motorcycles, including one that was stolen, and five mobile phones from the two accused.
The accused have been extorting money for quite some time and businessmen in Cuttack, Bhubaneswar, Puri, and Dhenkanal were their primary targets.
Police investigation into the matter revealed that the accused were not linked to the D-Brothers in any way but used the name to threaten their targets. Additional DCP,Cuttack, Anil Mishra told media persons in a press conference.
Further,Mishra added that a complaint was registered against unknown persons on October 23. The accused allegedly demanded protection money to the tune of Rs 5 lakh from a businessman at Chatra Bazaar.
Earlier, the two had extorted Rs 1 lakh from a person in Dhenkanal in a similar style of formula, Mishra said.
They have been arrested and were forwarded to court.
