Bermhapur, (Bureau): Liquor dealer’s gang asked him to release the seized stolen liquor. When the liquor was not released, they entered the excise station and attacked the excise officer and staff and threatened to kill him. Such a gang of liquor dealers was seen at the excise (Sadar)-1 station under the Anguli overbridge in Berhampur. Berhampur excise superintendent Praveen Pradhan gave this information at the Baidyanathpur police station. The police have investigated the incident and taken action based on the information obtained from the CCTV footage. While the main accused is Ferrar, Tofan Sahu (58) and Sagar Sahu (26) have been arrested and produced in court. The accused has been sent to Berhampur jail after his bail was rejected. According to information, on the evening of the 8th, the Excise Department raided a foreign liquor shop near Gopalpur Junction on the tip-off that liquor was being smuggled illegally on a scooter. Santosh Mandal of Ankuli was taken to the Excise Police Station on charges of smuggling liquor. At around 9 pm, liquor dealer Tophan, Sagar and some associates reached the Ankuli Excise Police Station. The Excise Officer refused to ask him to release the seized liquor and abused the Excise ASI Balram Behera with an iron rod and threatened to kill him. ASI Balram Behera informed the Baidyanathpur Police Station in this regard. It is worth noting that the main accused was earlier arrested by the police in connection with liquor smuggling and alcohol-related deaths.
