Enforcement against drunken drivers by Ganjam Police

Ganjam,(Chatrapur):The Ganjam Police District on Saturday strictly directed to all police stations that they should act promptly and to arrest drunken drivers to discourage others from driving under the influence of alcohol.
Superintendent of police, Ganjam Jagmohan Meena, has issued SoP to the all police stations Inspector-in-Charge that they bound to follow the instruction against drunken driving cases and arrest the offenders with seizure.
Stating,SP said that drunken driving is one of the major reasons for occurrence of accidents in Ganjam.
Following the instruction on Sunday 18 drunken drivers were arrested and their vehicles were seized. The enforcement teams of Ganjam Police,Jagannathprasad, Sorada, Pattapur, Dharakote, Polasara, Bellaguntha, Buguda, Aska, Gangapur, Bhanjanagar, Purushottompur, Chatrapur & Kodala detected drunken driving.
“The Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety has directed that the police should prosecute the offender and seek imprisonment as prescribed under section 185 of MV Act, 1988 even for the first offence in case of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and drugs, punishable for the first offence with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months, or with fine of Rs 10,000 or with both and for a second or subsequent offence, with imprisonment for a term which may extend to two years, or with fine which may extend to Rs 15,000 or with both.
Notably, For detection of drunken driving, adequate number of breath analysers have been provided to all police stations.
