Eight persons get life sentence in Berhampur

Berhampur,07/11/23: In a Historic judgement the Additional District and Sessions Court Judge-1 in Berhampur on Tuesday awarded life imprisonment to eight accused for their alleged involvement in the sensational M. Budu Patra murder case.
The Court pronounced the sentence after hearing 19 witnesses and examining other evidence in the case.
On September 17, 2017, deceased Budu and one of the convicts engaged in a brawl over some past enmity. Subsequently, the convicts armed with wooden sticks, iron rods and other weapons assaulted Budu during a conciliation meeting at village community hall.
Budu later entered his elder brother’s house near the community hall to save his life. However, the convicts barged into the house and beat him severely.
Budu succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment at the M.K.C.G. Medical College & Hospital after a few hours.
Based on the complaint lodged by Budu’s brother, police registered a case (194/17) and arrested eight persons on murder charges.
Later carrying out an investigation, the Police had arrested eight accused for their alleged involvement in the murder case. All of them had been in jail since September 2017.
G. Jena, Additional Public Prosecutor said, “An FIR was registered in connection with the case and police had filed charge sheet. As many as 19 witnesses were examined and the Court pronounced the judgement on Tuesday. All the eight accused have been awarded life sentence.”
The accused have been identified as ; R. Hari Patra, R. Lokanath Patra, M. Danda Patra, K Bima Patra, K Bairi Patra, M Somesh Patra, R Bhaskar Patra and B Nai Patra.
