Durga Puja celebrated with grandeur by Utkal Alumina at Doraguda,
Rayagada (Badal Tah): Utkal Alumina International Ltd (UAIL), a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries under the Aditya Birla Group organised the community celebration of Sharadiya Durga Puja at the local Dussehra Ground in Doraguda under Tikiri, Rayagada district with fervour & extravaganza. The five-day-long festivities, which commenced on Maha Shashthi filled the entire region with devotion and joy.
The beautifully crafted idol of Goddess Durga, adorned with colourful decorations, dazzling lighting and artistic gates, became a major attraction for devotees. The rituals of Sandhi Puja and Mahanavami were performed, while the grand celebration of Dussehra along with Ravana Podi was observed with utmost perfection. Supported by UAIL, the celebration has received wholehearted cooperation from local villagers from periphery.
To engage and entertain devotees, colourful cultural programmes and plays on social themes were staged every evening. A traditional Boogie Boogie dance competition was organised where around 22 local dance groups showcased their performances. In addition, popular orchestra groups from different parts of Odisha presented daily evening entertainment programmes.
The celebration was inaugurated in the traditional manner with lamp lighting and coconut breaking by local Panchayat representatives. Distinguished guests attending the programmes included Bangaari Majhi, Sarpanch of Kucheipadar, Nilabati Mandangi, Sarpanch of Podapadi, and Dambaru Dhar Majhi, Sarpanch of Kodipari, along with community leaders Sabala Naik and Chitrasen Naik.
The puja arrangements got managed under the direct supervision of UAIL, with active involvement of senior officials including Narayan Mitra, Kiran Nayak, Pitambar Behera, Bhojaraj Dash, Belkar Naik and other department heads.
In view of the heavy evening footfall, security measures were strengthened by Doraguda Police in coordination with UAIL’s security team. To ensure convenience for devotees, arrangements for drinking water, ambulance service and a 24-hour CCTV control room were put in place at the venue. Also different stalls were installed for household essentials, food and beverages, and toys for children, which drew huge crowds every evening.
