ROURKELA: During the lock down period petty crime in the city have increased multifold. Reason may be many like unemployment, lack of earning and lack of business transactions because of corona lock-down and shut down. Many youths are now committing this type of crime and mostly ‘snatching is on top list’.

Friday Sector-15 police have arrested on person Ashok Jena (21) a resident of ‘H’ block of sector-15 for collecting money from common people identifying him as police officer in duplicate police uniform. While Sector-15 police was patrolling near Sector-17 got the information that one police officer is taking fine from passersby near Sector-18 community centre.  Suspecting a foul play, police had rushed to the spot and interrogated the so called police officer and asked him to produce the ID card.

But he failed to produce the same and after the interrogation he confessed to his crime. Police has arrested the accused and seized duplicate police uniforms and a motorcycle used for the cause. Police has registered a case and is investigation the matter. Recently one scanting of mobile phone was done in front of me from a person on bicycle talking over phone while cycling on the road near Ambagaon chawk at around 8.45pm.

Two bikers on a bike snatched the phone form the person and slipped in the dark at a gentle speed without any fear if anyone giving them a chase. This has been a regular affair now-a-days. Many youths now are trying their luck to steal things from pedestrian, cyclist, bikers etc. A fear psychosis is developing among the people live in the city. One and half month back such type of incident had happened where a leading lady personality of the city had lost her life after a strong battle in a hospital for more than 10 days. It has to be stopped and police patrolling in the city has to be intensified so that this type of incidents should not occur.
