DRM , Assures to look into OVM’s demands on facilities for  PwDs

Rayagada,(18/06/25):Jalandhar Bacheli, Secretary & his colleagues namely Bijay Kumar Meleka from Rayagada Adibasi Mahasangha & Executive Body member Raghunath Patra representing Odisha Vikalang Manch (OVM), drew attention of Amitabh Singhal, Divisional Railway Manager(DRM), Rayagada regarding pressing .needs of persons with disabilities (PwDs) at Rayagada Railway Station.

They have demanded accessibility and inclusivity for ensuring equal opportunities for PwDs.

The demands includes: provision of accessible e-rickshaws or battery vehicles for PwDs to facilitate easy movement within the station premises, clear display of information about the location of Disability Train Bogie or Second class Luggage Rake van Designed for Divyangjan (SLRD) in trains, specifying whether it is near the engine or last coach (Guard), to avoid confusion among PwDs. They further demanded allocation of reserved parking spaces for PwDs near the station and installation of CCTV cameras to prevent theft and ensure safety, rovision of business stalls or vending opportunities for PwDs promoting economic empowerment and inclusivity & establishing a dedicated Disability Help Desk at the station, staffed with trained personnel to assist PwDs with queries, ticketing and other needs.

“These demands align with the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. Indian Railways’ initiatives to promote accessibility is also praiseworthy. We believe that implementing these measures will significantly enhance the travel experience for PwDs’, said Bacheli. DRM Singhal promptly responded and assured required action on these demands as per rules.
