Berhampur: Berhampur Bada Bazar Police arrested one mastermind persons on charges of illegal trading of gutkha here in the Silk City on Tuesday.
The police seized 9 Star Gokul Delux Mix 5 bags.Shivaji Mawa Masala Mix 15 bags Patti (Tobacco leaves) 15 Bags,Rocket Royal Brand (Tobacco) Kahini 10 bags,from possession of the accused persons.
The accused persons have been identified as Santosh Sahu(47) S/o-Aparti Sahu of Pandarabada Sahi, Ananda Nagar, Panigrahipentho, PS-Badabazar, Berhampur.
Sources said, “The gutkha bags were export from Berhampur to Jeypore to Malkangiri district,Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
According to ASP Prabhat Routray,in continuous drive against the Gutkha sale and manufacturing in Berhampur, Badabazar PS cracked a stock godown of owner Santosh Sahu on 16.08.2021 at 6.30 P.M.The above noted case was registered on the detection of SI Bhasat Ranjan Ray and Badabazar PS team regarding illegal possession, storage and selling of Gutkha, Tobacco leaf and other banned Gutkha products by stockist Santosh Sahu of Panigrahipentho, Badabazar. During raid and search of the godown house, above-mentioned stock of Gutkha, and other tobacco products have been recovered and seized. During verification of the godown house ascertained the owner trading and storing huge quantity of Gutkha and continuing his business without any licence or authority since last four years. In this connection Badabazar PS case no 168/2021 has been registered and investigation of the case is continuing. The accused Santosh Sahu is arrested and forwarded to court today.
In context, Badabazar PS Case No.168 Dt.16.08.2021U/s-420/272/273 IPC R/w Sec. 20 of the Cigarettes and other Tobacco Products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of trade and commerce, production, supply and distribution) Act, 2003/Sec 51/52/53/56/57/59/63 of Food Safety &Standards Act-2006.
