District Road Safety Committee Meeting in Rayagada: Police SP Swathy instructs to take the violators to task

Rayagada (Badal Tah): During a road safety meeting facilitated by district’s Regional Transport Authority held at Collectorate, police SP S Swathy Kumar, IPS briefed the participants regarding the steps taken to ensure road safety and security in the entire district. The participants included ADM Naveen Chandra Nayak, Rayagada Sub-Collector Ramesh Kumar Jena and other district level officials including RTO Sibasankar Choudhury. Gunupur Sub-Collector Kirandeep Kaur Sahate, IAS, participated through virtual mode.
Execution of the decisions taken during the previous meeting was reviewed. In particular, the activities taken on the necessary safety measures on the National Highway and State Highway roads under various police stations of the district such as signboards, rumblers system, bus turning points, radium light system were discussed.
SP Swathy Kumar expressed in the meeting that if a few gaps are still existing, they should be implemented immediately. District Education Officer requested to arrange speed breakers near the Nagavali planetarium. Some members drew attention to the fact that vehicles were parked illegally in various shopping malls, banks and car showrooms inside the city, causing traffic problems. Since the traffic movement from Railway Station Chowk to District Magistrate’s Residence Chowk, Honda Showroom and Block Chowk to Parlour was seen to be inconvenient, attention was drawn to improve it with immediate effect. Swathy ordered to check the issues raised strictly by the RTO and police.
By this April, 15 people were fined Rs. 15,000 for speeding, 965 people were fined Rs. 9,65,000 for driving without helmet, 294 people were fined Rs. 3,02,500 for driving without seat belt, and miscellaneous fines amounting Rs 1,82,500 were collected from 233 people. The total amount of fine collected was Rs.14,65,000. It was discussed for stricter checks in the future. Several members of the Regional Transport Committee, BDOs from various blocks and police officers from all police stations participated in the discussion. RTO Choudhury extended vote of thanks.
