“Dinkia Charidesh Solidarity Day” observed in the state capital of Odisha against state repression and police terror.

Bureau,Odishabarta

Bhubaneswar, 14/1/24 : In January 14, 2022 at Dhinkia of Jagatsinghpur district, local people were brutally beaten by the Odisha Police when they were going to their beetel field in a peaceful procession led by the Jindal Resistance Struggle Forum for the protection of their life livelihoods. It is a disgraceful chapter by Odisha Government in the history of Odisha’s democratic movement which has been expressed in the protest meeting organized in Bhubaneswar today.

Various leaders alleged that the anti-people character of the government, as the government is handing over the state’s land, forests, mines and water to the capitalists and corporates, by promoting the corporate interests and suppressing the people’s movement.

After the two years of such heinous incident, black day has been observed remembering the same as “Dinkia Charidesh Solidarity Day”.

The leader of the movement, Debendra Swain, who was arrested 2 years ago along with other agitator comrades and was a victim of police harassment, is spending his life in jail again after getting an interim bail for only two months. Even now, arrests are going on through police terror and false cases.

During such protest, they called upon the opposition political parties to raise their voice against the anti-people and pro-corporate policies of the state and central government. The BJD government has been adopting anti-people policies one after another and has been insisting on the displacement policy everywhere from the coast to the south, from the west to the north. Farmers, tribals, downtrodden, street vendors, slum dwellers everywhere are easy victims of this displacement policy and corporate attack, they pointed out.

The Solitary Day has been coordinated by Narendra Mohanty on behalf of the Jindal Resistance Movement Solidarity Forum and speakers from various sections like Biswapriya Kanungo, Henarani, Mahendra Parida, Prashant Paikaray, Sankar, Biswanath Patra, Pradeep Sahu gave keynote addresses in this meeting. Expressing solidarity with this programme persons like Sudhir Patnaik, Shrimant Mohanty, Pooja, Satish Mishra, Ashok Sahu, Pramodini Pradhan, Rakesh Kanungo, Sasmita Jena, Debranjan, Bijay Panda, Nigam, Subas, Tapan Padhi, Mohammad Sukkur, Debiprasannan and others were participated in today’s event.

They demanded for the scrapping of all anti-people contracts with corporates/companies like Vedanta, Hindalco, Maitri in various parts of the state including Jindal Company in Niyamgiri, Khandualmali, Sijimali and Koraput Mali hill areas, release the agitators arrested on false and fabricated charges, stop the state repression on the democratic movements. They also demanded to respect the opinion and rights of Gram Sabha before proposing and implementing any so called development projects.
